STUDENT PLACEMENT

The Office of Student Placement organizes and facilitates the student administrative transfer process for grades K-12. Choices of transfers are given, if space is available. The Office of Student Placement works with parents and students in addressing their request for placement in schools outside of their school zone. The Office of Student Placement provides guidance to parents on:

  • How to apply for transfers
  • Why transfers may be denied or revoked if enrollment in the school exceeds capacity
  • How transfers may be denied or revoked if attendance, behavior or academic performance is unsatisfactory
  • How decisions on transfer requests are made
The official zone boundary for each elementary, middle, and high school is established by the Atlanta Board of Education. Students are to attend the school in the zone in which is located the bona fide residence of their parents/legal guardians unless they have administrative approval to enroll elsewhere. A student's school attendance zone is determined by the bona fide primary residence of the custodial parent/legal guardian based on the annual completion of an affidavit and verification in the form of a deed, mortgage statement, or lease (JBCCA-E), and an electric utility bill.

Administrative transfers required by federal statute, such as the No Child Left Behind Act, take precedence over general administrative transfers.
