    Parents’ Right To Know

    Dear APS Parents and Guardians:

    Welcome back to the 2015-2016 school year.  All schools are required by federal law under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965(ESEA), to let you know about your child’s teachers’ qualifications.  We want you to know that it is your right to request the following information about your child’s teachers’ training and credentials:

    • Whether the teacher met the state requirements from the Georgia Professional Standards Commission for certification for the grade level and subject area which they teach;
    • Whether the teacher is teaching under an emergency or other temporary status through which Georgia qualification or certification criteria have been waived;
    • What undergraduate or graduate degree(s) the teacher holds; including graduate certificates and additional degrees, and major(s) or area(s) of concentration; and whether your child is provided services by paraprofessionals, and if so, their qualifications.

    Please know that the staff at your child’s school is committed to helping your child reach his or her highest academic potential throughout their school career.  That commitment includes making sure that all of our teachers and paraprofessionals are highly skilled and are providing quality instruction to your child.

    If you wish to request information concerning your child’s teachers’ qualifications, please contact your child’s principal, by phone or email, using the information provided on your school’s website.

  • APS Pilots Online Enrollment System Beginning July 6

    Atlanta Public Schools is piloting during July 6-10, 2015 an online enrollment system that parents can use to enroll new students online, when and where it is most convenient for them, and in just a few minutes.  Parents will have the ability to enter the student’s enrollment information and securely upload documents before visiting the school to finalize enrollment.

    The online enrollment system allows parents to pre-populate their child's enrollment information and confidentially upload scans or PDFs of forms like birth certificates or immunization records to create their preliminary enrollment record. The system also uses the information to determine the student's neighborhood school and can forward it directly to the school or enrollment site.  Parents will then visit the school or enrollment site to complete the process and present residency documents and student documents, such as certified birth certificates, social security cards and immunization records, to staff to review and confirm their authenticity.

  • Infinite Campus Parent and Student Portal

    CPP Login Page:  https://ic.apsk12.org/portal

    Parents of students in grades K–12 have access to class schedules, attendance records and grades by Campus Portal for Parents (CPP) which is an easy-to-use, secure communications tool. Additionally, CPP enables parents to verify household information, including their email address, home address and telephone numbers.
    Contact your child’s school to get your CPP activation key. Parents are required to  request the CPP activation key in person. To ensure that all student information remains secure, parents must provide a valid photo ID (driver’s license, state ID card, or passport) before receiving the CPP activation key.  Once parents receive the activation key, they can visit https://ic.apsk12.org/portal to create a unique username and password.

  • The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) affords parents and students who are 18 years of age or older ("eligible students") certain rights with respect to the student's education records.  These rights include the right to provide written consent before the school discloses personally identifiable information (PII) from the student's education records, except to the extent that FERPA authorizes disclosure without consent.

    One exception which permits disclosure without consent is disclosure to school officials with legitimate educational interests.  A school official is a person employed by the school as an administrator, supervisor, instructor, or support staff member (including health or medical staff and law enforcement unit personnel) or a person serving on the school board.  A school official also may include a volunteer or contractor outside of the school who performs an institutional service of function for which the school would otherwise use its own employees and who is under the direct control of the school with respect to the use and maintenance of PII from education records, such as an attorney, auditor, medical consultant, or therapist; a parent or student volunteering to serve on an official committee, such as a disciplinary or grievance committee; or a parent, student, or other volunteer assisting another school official in performing his or her tasks.  A school official has a legitimate educational interest if the official needs to review an education record in order to fulfill his or her professional responsibility.

    Also, upon request, the school discloses education records without consent to officials of another school district in which a student seeks or intends to enroll, or is already enrolled if the disclosure is for purposes of the student’s enrollment or transfer.

    For more information about Student Records and disclosures, including directory information, please refer to the Student Handbook, and Board Policy JR and Administrative Regulation JR-1(R).

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Good day.  My name is Duane Edward Hale, Principal of Price Middle School.  I am grateful that Atlanta Public Schools selected me as your instructional/operational leader for the 2015-2016 academic year.  I will work endlessly to improve the quality of instruction that is delivered to our children, and I am truly excited about the opportunity to be of service to students, parents, and the community.

From a philosophical standpoint, I believe that a safe and secure learning environment is necessary for children to effectively learn and our children will adhere to rules and procedures at Price Middle School in accordance with Atlanta Public Schools.  Further, I believe that rigorous instruction and active engagement are the foundations of a quality 21st century education.  By setting high expectations and challenging our students to meet them, I am confident that Price will continue to grow as a learning community as we prepare our students for success in the college and career pathways of their choice.

As Principal, I ask that you become active in our school community.  Parental involvement is a critical factor in your child’s success, so please contact the school if you are interested in volunteering.  There are a variety of ways to get involved during the school day and at evening events.  Additionally, I ask that you emphasize to your children that school is important and should be approached daily as such.  We are requesting all parents to speak to your children about the importance of being respectful, adhering to rules and procedures, and completing class and homework assignments on a daily basis.  Furthermore, we need your children to participate in our tutorial programs, and we need all children to read at home for a minimum of 30 minutes a day to improve comprehension in all academic areas. Town Hall Meetings will be conducted the first week of school explaining protocols and procedures for the school year and students will be given academic and behavioral contracts in which parents/guardians must read, sign, and return to Price Middle School by Friday, August 14, 2015.

Throughout the year, I ask that you frequently check our website for updated school information, which now includes our revised dress code policy that will be implemented from the start of the 2015 - 2016 school year.  I would also encourage you to visit Price to get your gradebook username and password, so you can check your child’s grades on the Internet.  These usually arrive at the school by the end of August.  Once they arrive, we will post this on our website.

In accordance with our school motto “Excellence is the Only Standard”, we will excel in Academics, Athletics, and in the Arts. We will create pathways of excellence that will display our Wildcat Spirit in all that we do here at Price Middle School.  Please feel free to call, e-mail, or visit me with your concerns or ideas for the improvement of our school.  The staff and I look forward to partnering with you in our continued pursuit of excellence at Price Middle School.  I look forward to meeting each of you as we prepare our students for success in the college and career of their choice.

Sincerely,

Duane Edward Hale
