Leading the Charge for Excellence

Mr. Donell Underdue, Jr.,

Interim Executive Director

School Reform Team-1

A Message from Mr. Underdue:

Greetings SRT-1 Family!

I am extremely proud of SRT-1 schools! We have kicked off the second semester of the 2011 - 2012 school year with great fervor and I am excited about the hard work taking place in each of our schools. Having had opportunities to visit with students and staff members across SRT-1, I feel humbled to witness first-hand the dedication to excellence in education that all stakeholders are demonstrating.

As we move forward, I do not want any of us to lose momentum or sight of our goals. Rather, I submit to students, teachers, administrators, parents, and community members that it is time to kick it in to high gear. As evidenced by the many accomplishments of our students, we are continuously striving for academic excellence, and as we approach our 2012 CRCT testing period, it is imperative that we remain focused.

Parents and students, over the next few weeks, schools will begin hosting workshops designed to provide you with proven strategies to reduce test taking anxiety and perform at your absolute best. It has been proven that students who prepare early experience far greater outcomes than those who do not, so I encourage you to attend. As a prelude to the wonderful workshops that will be conducted throughout SRT-1, I have provided a few simple student focused strategies below.

I wish each of you much success as you prepare for the 2012 CRCT.

Respectfully Yours,
Donell Underdue, Jr.

 Get a Jump on Testing!

1. Get a good night’s rest.  Your memory recall will be much better if you have enough rest.

2. Eat a healthy breakfast before each test day.  A good balanced breakfast provides an excellent source of energy on test day. Avoid drinking beverages containing caffeine such as coffee, tea, or soda; caffeine causes you to crash and lose energy quickly.

3. Avoid conflicts with your peers, family and friends.  Anxiety and outside pressures cause a loss of focus and poor performance.

4. Review your material and be confident in what you know.  Think of your own answer before looking at the choices provided. Eliminate clearly wrong answers, and then make your best guess.

5. Read through the test thoroughly.  Once you have the test paper in front of you, read over the entire test, checking out how long it is and all the parts that you are expected to complete. This will allow you to estimate how much time you havefor each section and ask the teacher any questions.
