Toomer Elementary PTA
Below is an outline of PTA committees for the 2011-2012 school year.
Please read the following descriptions and sign up if you can help. Please make a note if you would like to chair or co-chair a committee. Most of the ground work is already done, but we need volunteers to take the lead.
The PTA is a great way to get involved with your school, assist the staff, and raise money for enrichment programs. The time commitment is small, but the rewards are HUGE! There is a committee for every interest and talent.
Please take a moment to look over the volunteer opportunities, and then choose the committee you will enjoy.
Please contact Sally Alcock, PTA Co President and Volunteer Chairperson with any questions, (cell/text: 404.664.9443 / email@example.com).
You may also download the Volunteer Checklist/Survey and drop it off in the PTA mailbox located in the Fred Armon Toomer Elementary School’s front office, 65 Rogers Street, NE. PTA Volunteer Survey / Form
Right now, there are five current fund-raising committees that help raise money for the PTA. Each year these groups raise money to support field trips, add new supplies and equipment to the classrooms, assist with established programs, and add enrichment programs for our students. The fund-raising committees are:
Flea Market – Saturday, October 2nd
This Fall fundraiser gives the Toomer and Kirkwood community an opportunity to enjoy a flea market. Includes distribution of flyers, collecting flea market participants and funds, set-up, and clean-up.
This annual December event is our biggest fund-raiser. Volunteers are needed for dinner planning, set-up and clean-up.
Process orders for beautiful artwork created by our own children.
Help run the kiosk/store after school one day a week, collect money, keep inventory, and deposit monies with the PTA treasurer.
Publicize the sale of cakes, compile orders, and organize the event day.
There are several Program committees that make our school a better community and fun place to be. We need lots of support to make these events a reality for our students. Some run year-round but your commitment can be whatever you can give.
Trinity Laurino, Chairperson
Help schedule planting and harvesting days as well as maintenance schedules for our garden. Will work in conjunction with “Cougars Go Green” and support the PTA’s environmental education efforts.
Distribute information to the students, parents, and community (i.e. using one of the following vehicles: Toomer's APS website, APS calling post (phone tree), KNO newsletter, PTA database, and/or other media sources).
PTA M.O.R.E. (All Pro Dads)
Don Harte, Chairperson
Organizations in PTA's Men Organized to Raise Engagement (MORE) alliance are dedicated to raising the level of engagement between children and the important men in the lives. Dads and Doughnuts are organized by this committee (4 times a year).
Family Engagement Committee
This committee will work with Toomer’s Family/Parent Liaison to promote the welfare of our children and youth in home, school, and the community. We will work to bring into closer relation, the home and the school, so parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of children and youth.
We are proposing 3 movie nights, a bingo night, and other suggested events open to our students and Toomer community. Suggestions welcome!
A chance for mother-figures to accompany their students to school and enjoy breakfast together. (2 times a year)
Help plan activities, publish event details, help organize and run events.
Event planning, publish schedule of events, purchasing necessary items, executing events.
Toomer Elementary is planning to host a Chinese New Year Festival in late January. Coordinate PTAs efforts with the school to ensure a successful event for the students and community.
