Superintendent Search Committee community meetings

The Superintendent Search Committee will hold community meetings at schools in every cluster. The purpose of the meetings is to obtain input regarding the profile for the next superintendent. The meeting dates and locations are listed below. All meetings will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

·       May 15: North Region meetings will be held at Harper-Archer MS, the Coretta Scott King Young Women’s Leadership Academy and Sutton MS.

·       May 16: South Region meetings will be held at Long MS and Price MS.

·       May 20: West Region meetings will be held at Brown MS, Bunche MS and Young MS.

·       May 21: East Region meetings will be held at Inman MS and King MS.

Cell Phone Policy

Atlanta Public School has modified its cell phone use policy to allow cell phones in school, ONLY WITH a completed parent permission and information form. If you have not yet completed this form, students are NOT allowed to have a cell phone. Teachers/staff will continue to take cellphones. Parents, please come to the front office to get confiscated phones and/or a permission form. Click for more info or a copy of the form.

Volunteer Policy

In January the Atlanta Board of Education adopted a new administrative regulation that requires each school to conduct screening of volunteers, and requires all volunteers to have on file with the school a completed Volunteer Release Form, which must be submitted with a copy of a government-issued photo ID. Summer Academy Begins at Inman

Welcome Rising 6th Graders Coan Middle School has planned a series of events just for rising 6th graders and their parents. These events are designed to answer, among other things, questions about Coan’s curriculum, discipline standards, student composition, academic achievements, extracurricular activities - and yes - what it means to have a middle schooler!

During the year, parents and students will have an opportunity to:
· Meet Coan faculty and staff including Principal Dr. Betsy Bockman, the 6th Grade Counselor, and members of Coan’s 6th grade teaching team;

· Visit the school and 6th grade classrooms; and
· Ask questions.
Please mark these dates on your family’s calendar now. Additional information about these events will be provided closer to the date. We look forward to personally welcoming your family to Coan Middle School.
