First Semester Honors Assembly
In December, many students were honored at our awards ceremony. Students were honored for academic achievement and citizenship. We heard from a wonderful guest speaker and listened to performances from our talented band, orchestra, and chorus!

On Wednesday, December 11, 2013, The Coan middle school band and orchestra performed at North Dekalb Mall for their Winter concert series. The Coan middle school orchestra is under the direction of Ms. Bridgette Yancy and the Coan middle school band is underthe direction of Mr. Isaiah Bell. The students played selections ranging from Winter Wonderland, to First Christmas March, which was a medley of familiar holiday tunes, Rolling Along, Wexford Circle and traditional folk songs. Several students, Danielle Liburd,Lamecia Harris, both 7th graders and Terrance Ross, 6thgrader, performed with both the band and the orchestra. We had a great parental and community support for our day time performance and the students also enjoyed performing for the community at large.
On Thursday, December 19, 2013, at 6:30 pm, the Coan middle school connections department presented their annual Winter concert in the gymnasium atCoan middle school. The program featured the Chorus, Band, Orchestra, Spanish students, French students, and Reading students. Students performed a medley of Holiday music on instruments, through songs in English, Spanish and French. There was also poetry presentedin English and Spanish. The students wore festive attire and guests from the community assisted in provided piano and drums for our Chorus. A pre-concert reception was provided from Community in Schools for the students which included a pizza dinner. Specialthanks to all who participated in making this program a success!
