Dear Parents of the Young Scholars of Usher-Collier Elementary:

Welcome to the 2012-2013 school year!  The Usher-Collier Elementary school family is committed to providing a positive, challenging, and academically sound learning environment for all children.  All children will be actively involved in demonstrating mastery of the Georgia Common Core Standards curriculum.  We will provide learning activities which require high levels of critical thinking accompanied by application of learning to real-world situations, and the development of leadership skills.

Additionally, teachers will focus on specific skills in each of the four content areas (Math, Science, Social Studies, and ELA/Reading) which (based on 2012 CRCT achievement data) needs improvement.  An emphasis on reading, writing, and speaking skills will also be put into place across the curriculum.  Moreover, our Usher-Collier Elementary educators are experienced and dedicated professionals who are committed to helping all children reach their full positive potential.

We have an unwavering commitment to ensuring our students successfully transition into a new school year.  We consistently impart high expectations, and challenge all children to exceed expectations every day.  In time, our children will demonstrate to the community the will to succeed through faith that anything is possible with consistent rigorous work.

Parents, you can support your children(s) during this stage in their lives by always checking  assignments, remaining in contact with teachers, actively participating with the Parent Teacher Student Association (PTA), and becoming a member of various support committees.  Additionally, further information will be made available regarding becoming a member of the Local School Council, our school advisory board.  Please continue to check our website for updates.  Also, remember that the consistent support and encouragement of parents result in greater success for all children.

I expect and truly believe that 2012-13 will be a great school year.  Please stay involved, and call on your child’s teacher, counselor, or administrator for any assistance you may need.

Sincerely,

Gregory W. Parks
