The Communications and Journalism (C&J) Academy continues Grady’s tradition of outstanding print and broadcast journalism and graphic design. Students in the C&J Academy can look forward to a challenging, engaging, and dynamic school year. The instructional team is designing interdisciplinary lessons and projects and experts who work in the various fields of mass media will visit Grady to share their knowledge and experience with the C&J students. Additionally, students will have opportunities to visit the many media companies in Atlanta.
This year the C&J instructional team consists of Deedee Abbott (Oral/Written Communication, English, and print journalism), Kate Carter (print journalism), Gabangaye Gcabashe (chemistry and physics), Jeremy Green (mathematics), Mario Herrera (journalism, English, and debate), Torin Kaletsky (biology), Trisha Kendall (graphic design), Susan Mercer (print journalism), Nalin Needham (English), Paul Nicolson (graphic production), Jason Patterson (mathematics), Thaddeus Roberts (Broadcast/Video Production), Susan Salvesen (social studies), and Dave Winter (print journalism). Students take their foreign language, sophomore science classes, and electives (including music, art, JROTC, and PE) with students from the other three academies.
