Principal

Greetings from Washington Early College:

My name is George G. Rutledge, and it is definitely a privilege and an honor for me to serve as the interim principal of Booker T. Washington High School Early College. Although this small school has only been in existence for 3 years, it has already established a strong tradition of excellence in the sense that students are achieving academically, socially and mentally. According to the Value-Added Index, our students are receiving 12 months of education in 9 months. This is primarily due to the fact that our teachers have high expectations for their students, that our students are indeed engaged, and that our parents, guardians, and stakeholders are involved their education.

This year we will graduate our first senior class, the Legacy Class, and we are all excited. We are excited because we believe that these students are well prepared to either continue their post-secondary education, for those who have been attending CAU or GSU, to enter the workforce, or the military. They will continue to be critical thinkers, life-long learners and productive citizens.

This is the first year that APS is implementing the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards in Language Arts and Mathematics. Coordinate Algebra replaces Math I for 9^th graders this year. This means that our students are focused and ready to meet the challenges of an even more rigorous schedule.

We have newly elected PTSA officers, and several newly elected parents on our Local School Council, all of whom are excited and poised for a great school year. I want to encourage all of our parents to please come out and support your children and our PTSA.

In closing, always know that you are always welcome to visit our great school at any time. Our teachers are available to meet with parents/guardians as long as you give us advanced notice.
