Mr. Allen Nichols
 
Mr. Nichols is Benteen's English to Speakers of Other Languages teacher.  This is his 16th year as an employee of the Atlanta Public Schools, and this is his first full year at Benteen.  He received this honor of being the Employee of the Month for May, because he comes to work on time everyday and because he is the ultimate team player.  He does what is asked of him to the best of his abilities and with a smile.  Mr. Nichols is a native Atlantan, who enjoys playing the piano and organ.  He also enjoys spending time with his two Pomerian dogs named Mozart and Rio.

Dr. Lenice Horton, Benteen's counselor, was selected as the school's Employee of the Month for April, because of her outstanding leadership with the Student Support Team, Fun Fridays, and the booking of the Dental Van to name a few of the wonderful programs she is responsible for.  Dr. Horton has been employed with Atlanta Public Schools 23 years, and she has been a counselor for the past 13 years.  She is a newlywed who enjoys working out, and she is a proud owner of a 13-year old cat is named Ming.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Ms. Marlene Jones

at Benteen Elementary School
 
 Ms. Marlene Jones
 
Ms. Marlene Jones is the Special Education Lead Teacher at Benteen.  She has been a teacher for 10 years, two of which have been with Benteen ES.  Prior to coming to her current assignment, she worked at Parks Middle School and Slater Elementary School.  The Benteen administrative team selected her for this honor because of her willingness and her ability to calm any student who may not be having such a good day.  A true advocate for students with special needs, Ms. Jones encourages her students to participate in many of, if not all, regular education excurricular programs.  In her spare time, she ejoys eating, jogging, basketball, and driving her two magnificent daughters around to their many activites.  She is expecting her third child, a boy, during the summer.

Mrs. Coleman is the primary level EIP teacher, and effectionately known, by the students, as The Ice Cream Lady.  The administrative staff chose to recognize her because she is the behind the scene kind of person that makes sure that whatever she is involved with is done and done correctly.  This is Mrs. Coleman's first year at Benteen, she has taught at E. R. Carter ES, F. L. Stanton ES,  and Thomasville Heights ES, and worked for a number of years as a Model Teacher Leader in SRT-2.  She is married and a mother of an adult son.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 Mrs. Ernestine George

Employee of the Month
 
 
 
The administrative team of Benteen Elementary chose Mrs. Ernestine George as the January 2013 Employee of the Month.  She was chosen because of her constant willingness to use her creativity for decorating the school for special programs and holidays.  Mrs. George is a paraprofessional, working with the school's kindergarten team and more specifically with Mr. Jason Paggett.  She has worked as a paraprofessional for 37 years; 22 of those years have been with Benteen.  Mrs. George is a widow who has one daughter, and two grandchildren.  In her spare time she enjoys reading and dancing.

Employee of the Month
 
 
The Benteen administrative team selected Mrs. Wilma Brightharp as their Employee of the Month for December 2012.  She was selected for her willingness to help the entire faculty, and because she comes to work every day and on time.  This is Mrs. Brightharp's first year at Benteen, she was assigned to Capitol View Elementary School for a number of years prior to its closure in the Spring of 2012.  She is the school's media specialist.

Ms. Kimberlyn Gaston

Employee of the Month
 
 
     The November 2012 Employee of the Month is Ms. Kimberlyn Gaston.  She was selected for this honor because she is always willing to help, she comes to work everyday and on time, and she is the definitely the epitome of service with a smile.  Ms. Gaston has been employed with Atlanta Public Schools for seven years, four of which have been with Benteen.  She serves as the paraprofessional in the school's ESOL department, assisting Mr. Allen Nichols.

Mrs. Erica Turman Named
Benteen's October 2012 Employee of the Month
 
      Mrs. Turman was named the Employee of the Month because of her willingness to spearhead projects without being asked and without any complaints.  Also, for every task that she undertakes, she manages to go above and beyond what is required of her.  This is her first year as a teacher at Benteen Elementary, but she has been teaching for 12 years.  Mrs. Turman is a fifth grade teacher.

Ms. Shenita Vaughn Selected as the Employee of the Month
 
      Each month, Dr. Vonda McKeever, selects a staff member who has gone beyond the call of duty in performing their resonsibilities and honors them for a job well done.  The selected staff member is honored with a bulletin board displaying their qualities, a certificate, a monetary gift.
 
    For the month of September 2012, Ms. Shenita Vaughn, the school's instructional coach, is being honored for going beyond the call of duty in preparing the staff for the new school year and for helping them master the Common Core Standards.
