Hello, my name is Laura Dostie. This is my 7th year of teaching; my 3rd at Jackson. A native of the Atlanta area, I am a graduate of Furman University where I received both my bachelor’s in elementary education and master’s in early childhood education. Also, I am certified to teach gifted & talented and special education.
I love working with children at this time of their lives! Fourth grade sets in motion an important transition in your child’s life full of personal growth and mastery of new knowledge and skills. Active, meaningful learning experiences will occur in our classroom daily through hands-on activities, cooperative learning opportunities, and meaningful discussions to help your child do his or her best. I strongly believe that in order for this to happen, your child’s education must be a team effort between you, your child, and me. Therefore, I welcome and encourage you to be an active participant in your child’s learning. From reading to students during the day, working on projects in the evenings, or volunteering in other ways there are endless possibilities for parent involvement in our classroom (a classroom volunteer list will be coordinated soon). You can also be involved on a daily basis by supporting your child with homework completion, assisting them with developing effective study habits, and most importantly by encouraging your child to work hard & “reach for the stars.”
