Brandon's Main Campus Media Center gets a makeoverPosted by Lindsay Waddell at 8/31/2009 3:00:00 PM Hello to the Brandon Community and welcome to our blog! My name is Lindsay (or, Ms. Waddell as the students know me) and I will be creating and moderating this blog. I'm really excited about my first year as your media specialist at Brandon Elementary - Main Campus and will use this blog to keep you updated and informed about all of the fun happenings in the media center - or the MC squared (Main Campus Media Center), if you will.
One of our first projects was to give this media center a very subtle makeover of sorts. I only describe it as "subtle" because you wouldn't notice it at first sight. Otherwise, it was a huge project that required a lot of great parent volunteers (thank you!). Previously, the media center was arranged in 'accelerated reader' order. So, I decided to change this and arrange the media center in traditional Dewey Decimal order. Now, all of the non-fiction books are together, all of the chapter books are together and all of the picture books are together, etc. This will be very helpful to the Brandon students because it will be much easier to find books according to interest, author, or series. However, we do still have the books marked with AR information and it is still easy to find a book on a particular level!
So, now that we are finished with that daunting task, we have started Media Center Orientation. I have really enjoyed meeting all of the students and helping them check out their first book of the year. We'll be open for 'open checkout' on Wednesday and are looking forward to wonderful year here at Brandon.
