Pursuant to HB 251, which was signed into law by Governor Sonny Perdue allowing PUBLIC SCHOOL CHOICE, residents of the City of Atlanta can attend a public school outside of their assigned school if space is available. Also those persons who live outside of the City of Atlanta may apply to attend an Atlanta Public School if space is available and with the payment of non-resident tuition. For school choice, Atlanta Public Schools offers General Administrative Transfers and Georgia Special Needs Scholarship Transfers each spring.
All City of Atlanta residents
Non-resident students (tuition required)*
Children of APS full time non-resident employees are considered residents and allowed to attend APS schools tuition-free
Transportation under this public school choice option is the responsibility of the parent.
A general administrative transfer is valid through the highest grade of the school for which the transfer is approved. A transfer does not grant students the right to attend the next school in the feeder pattern. The granting of a transfer for one child under school choice does not ensure approval of siblings for current or future school years.
Special Education Services Notice
Please note that if you request a transfer and your child receives special education service, there also must be appropriate special education services and space available in the special education program at the requested school for the transfer to be granted.
