2017-2018 Welcome Letter
July 10, 2017
Dear Families of Alonzo A. Crim Open Campus High School,
I hope that this summer has been full of fun loving memory making moments with your family. Although we have weeks prior to beginning a new year, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on this past year and use that synergy to propel us into 2017-2018.
Last year brought forth many firsts for students at Alonzo A. Crim. We had our first two students enrolled dually at Crim as well as at Atlanta Metropolitan College; our first Hope Scholar recipient, our first 2 Atlanta Achieve Scholars, the opening of our first student built Construction Lab; our first Secretary selected to represent all secretaries within the district (Ms. Wilkerson), our first graduates accepted to colleges outside of AMT and Miles, our first 30% increase in Winter EOC scores across all contents; our first visit from the White House by Mr. Broderick Johnson, appointed by President Barack Obama as the Cabinet Lead for “My Brother’s Keeper”, and the first time our Culinary Arts program catered every Cabinet meeting for the district, raising over $40,000 in donations for additional programming activities for our students, just to name a few. The point, we have established a precedent from which we must use as a springboard to make this year even better. Of course, we cannot do this without you. With your commitment and support, 2017/2018 can truly be the best ever!
In order to help you prepare mentally and physically for next year, I am including a copy of the Bell Schedule and Orientation/Open House flyer. First period will begin promptly at 8:45 a.m. and the regular school day will end at 4:00 p.m. For those interested in taking an additional 6th period course, from 4:20-5:35 p.m., a light snack will be provided between 4:00 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. to refuel your energy and help you focus on your evening class.
We have implemented NEW PROCEDURES for all Crim students. Our dress code is now OFFICIAL! Cell phones are not to be seen or used while on campus; unless given direct permission by a teacher for a classroom lesson. Open House is scheduled on July 28th and will begin as early as 10:00 a.m. and will extend all day until 3:00 p.m. These times are directly aligned to the Mandatory Parent/Student Orientations whereby all new and returning families must attend. During this brief orientation we will review new guidelines as it pertains to Student Attendance and Student Conduct both which are important for student success and for helping the school to reach our goals.
Lastly, we are excited about what 2017-2018 brings for all of us. By truly working together we will be able to ensure success for all of our students. Enjoy the rest of your summer! See you on July 28th!
