• ¡Saludos!...Greetings!  My name is  Joni Butts—better known as Señorita Chiquita” to my students—and I am blessed to be the World Languages Specialist in Spanish for Heritage Academy.

I started my higher education at Oakwood University (Huntsville, AL), and finished at Georgia State, from which I hold a BA in Spanish Teaching, and a minor in Secondary Education.  My 21-year teaching career includes two years at Coan Middle School, four years at Minnie Howell Elementary School, and more than 14 years at Heritage Academy.

One of my favorite accomplishments is being hired as Bailiff/Spanish Interpreter for the City of Atlanta Municipal Court—beating out four Hispanic co-applicants!  I am also honored to work with the Missionary Outreach phase of Operation Reachback, Inc., an organization dedicated to enhancing life in some of the poorest areas of the United States and throughout Africa.

I love to travel and experience the abundance of diverse cultures all around us.  As World Languages Specialist, I help my students to Celebrate and Appreciate!” this diversity, and to realize just how smart they are by learning a second language.   The future will be full of wonderful opportunities for our children.  World Languages is the way to “level the playing field”, and enable them to be ready to open the door when opportunity knocks.

    ¡Viva el español!
