Ayana Oden is a proud graduate of the University of Michigan and the University of Phoenix. After receiving her bachelor’s degree in 2001, she joined the ranks of Teach for America and relocated to Atlanta, GA. She has excelled as an Educator and has more than 14 years of teaching experience with the Atlanta Public Schools System. She has taught grades 3-5, worked as an EIP math teacher, and an instructional coach. Mrs. Oden holds certifications in leadership, ESOL, and mathematics. She is currently a doctoral student at Georgia State University where she is focusing her studies on issues of social justice and mathematics education.
Mrs. Oden takes pride in helping her students have a positive attitude regardless of their circumstances. Her classroom motto and motto for life in general is “Our lives are not determined by what happens to us but by how we react to what happens” (Wade Boggs). She believes that every obstacle is an opportunity to learn and that we should press towards our dreams, in spite of our fears, because it is only then that we can realize our true purpose.
