STEM to STEAM: Art and Technology Components
Discover Education is a free online resource available to all schools in the state of Georgia. Using this resource, students in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades will create science videos, podcasts, and clay animation to demonstrate their knowledge of scientific and mathematics concepts. They will incorporate literacy and technology skills to create a story board for their video. They will collaborate with Mr. Kerr, our Art teacher, to create clay models as part of their clay animation production. This program will offered during the school-wide STEM block next school year. The current inventory of IPADs will be used to create the videos. Movie maker apps would have to be downloaded on the IPADs for students to use in creating their videos. Our technology experts, Ms. Miller and Ms. McCrary, will lead this project. We plan to include a presentation of these videos during the STEM Showcase. The UPS grant provides us with the necessary funding to purchase Apps for the IPADS, Photoshop software, and project materials. We have partnered with Savannah College of Arts and Design (SCAD) to provide our students with Digital Media exposure through field trip experiences to the SCAD Digital Media Center and interaction with professors during Career day.
