• Exposure to STEM Careers

Students will have the opportunity to be exposed to STEM careers and opportunities through different programs offered by UPS.

    • The students in the Girls Mentorship Program had the opportunity to tour the campus of Georgia Institute of Technology. Mentors were able to provide students with important information on how they can pursue a degree in engineering.
    • Volunteers in the Junior Achievement Program shared information about STEM careers.  This same goal will also be a focus during the up-coming Career Day.
    • Ten students received a scholarship to attend the GA Tech KIDS STEM Club. Funding provided by our partners and PTA officers will help pay for student registrations to the KIDS Club experience at GA Tech this coming school year.
    • Members of the robotics team participated in a job-shadowing experience at UPS headquarter in Atlanta, GA during the fall of 2012. We aim to make this an annual event.

The faculty and staff of Fickett Elementary School, as well as UPS Foundation leadership, understand that early exposure to STEM areas will increase student achievement in reading, mathematics, and science and will foster a far extending love of the technical science. It will allow students to develop College and Career readiness skills that are necessary for them to become globally competitive citizens.
