Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Terry Harness
It is with great pride and excitement that I am the newly appointed Principal of Springdale Park Elementary School. SPARK has a strong presence in the community because of the school’s commitment to the success, growth and development of our children and we will continue this great work to guarantee success for all students. Words cannot express the excitement and joy I feel to be joining such a wonderful school family. I know our partnerships will be critical in ensuring our students’ continued success.
I began my career as a Spanish and ESOL teacher in Florence and Charleston, South Carolina, after graduating from the University of South Carolina where I earned both my undergraduate and graduate degrees. I moved to Atlanta in 2004 where I continued to teach at North Springs Charter High School in the Sandy Springs community while earning my master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Georgia State University. At North Springs, I became an Assistant Administrator and then the World Language Curriculum Coordinator for Fulton County Schools. During my years as a curriculum coordinator, I learned that my true passion was to work more directly with students and teachers. I became an Assistant Principal at Woodland Charter Elementary School, where I was a part of the Woodland family for the last four years. Most recently, I served as the Assistant Principal at Sandy Springs Middle School.
My family means the world to me. I have two younger brothers, Randy and Chris. Randy lives with his wife and son in the Atlanta metropolitan area and Chris lives in South Carolina with his wife and two sons. I am an incredibly proud uncle and I hope that you all will have the opportunity to meet Reece, Grayson and Hunter at one of our school/community events. I almost neglected to mention my “son”, Beans, the Chihuahua. He is about 6lbs of high energy with “spark” but not much bark.
Again, I look forward to continuing and building upon the SPARK legacy while giving our students the best opportunities to become self-motivated, active and happy learners. Please stop and say hello or come by for a visit, my door is always open.
I look forward to this journey with my new SPARK family.
