Dear Parent or Guardian,
Welcome to Inman Middle School’s Physical Education Program! We believe we have one of the best programs in Atlanta Public Schools. We offer a variety of enjoyable activities and learning experiences which emphasize the establishment of healthy habits, good attitudes, sport skill and knowledge, and physical fitness improvement.
ALL STUDENTS MUST DRESS FOR CLASS EVERY DAY AS FOLLOWS:
1) T-shirt or sweatshirt
2) Gym shorts or Sweats - No more than 3 ½ inches above the knee. The following will not be allowed in class: bike shorts or other spandex, yoga pants, leggings, or unhemmed cutoffs.
3) Socks.
4) Athletic shoes – Any type of athletic shoe w/ laces. All shoes must be laced in class.
5) Boots, sandals, flats, or flip flops are not allowed for participation.
Students will be expected to participate in class every day, even if they do not have the appropriate attire.
GRADING PROCEDURES
· The student’s final grade will be determined by an average of the weekly skills assessment, exercise log, and written assessments
Skills Assessment– 60% Written Assessments – 30% Exercise Log-10%
Skills Assessment
Students will be assessed in the following three categories throughout the semester:
Skill/Fitness Performance-Demonstrates proper exercise technique, uses feedback to correct movement patterns
Cognitive Knowledge-describes principles of training, analyzes movement patterns, describe concepts of activity
Self/Social Responsibility- demonstrates safety awareness, self-responsibility, accepts challenges
WRITTEN ASSESSMENTS
- Students will receive a study guide prior to the written test that will be administered at the end of each unit.
- When students are absent from class on a test day, they will take the test upon returning to school.
- Failure to do this will result in a “zero” for that particular assignment.
Exercise Log
Students will particpate in class exercise log activities throughout the course in order to increase personal fitness choices
EXCUSES
- A note from a parent will excuse a student from participation, but they will be given the task handout to complete
- If your child needs to be excused for more than two days, he or she will need to bring a doctor’s note.
- Students with extended illnesses will be required to keep a P.E. notebook.
Please help us by making sure your son or daughter is prepared for class daily.
