My name is Dr. Sashelle Alexander and I am the Math Specialist for Boyd Elementary School. This year I celebrate my 25th year in education. I have worked with students in each grade level including students at the collegiate level pursuing K-12 teaching certifications. Though originally from Cleveland, Ohio, I recently relocated to the Metro-Atlanta area from Tampa, Florida where I focused specifically on effective teaching and cross-curricular learning strategies to improve students’ mathematical performance at the K-5 levels. I received my Ph.D. from Cleveland State University’s Urban Education program with a concentration on Leadership and Lifelong Learning. With the use of research-based turnaround interventions, I will be providing direct transformational math support to a select group of students at Boyd Elementary School to promote student achievement.
I am most passionate about making math matter to students. It is my vision to help students make sense of math concepts by introducing them to a myriad of strategies and resources including the Do the Math Program. Research shows that when students are armed with strategies, resources and real-world connections, they tend to experience greater achievement. The instruction I provide is in addition to the regular classroom teacher’s math instruction. Collaborating with the classroom teachers, I am dedicated to creating an enjoyable learning environment to complement the learning objectives which are aligned with the Georgia Milestones to help our students reach their optimal success in their current grade and beyond.
I am of the belief that parent and guardian involvement is critical to the success of all children. I welcome and encourage parent and guardian involvement in all aspects of a child’s education. I look forward to working with Boyd’s students this year and being a part of the Math success students will achieve this year!
