Dear Golden Bear family,
It is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that I write to you as your 8th Grade Assistant Principal! I am truly honored to be a part of such an esteemed staff and of the Sylvan Hills community. Before the busyness of beginning another exciting school year besets us, I would like to introduce myself both personally, and professionally.
I was born here in Atlanta, Georgia and am considered to be a “rare, but true Georgia Peach.” Before beginning my career 16 years ago, I attended Georgia State University and received my Bachelors of Science in Middle Grades Education with concentrations in Language Arts and Social Studies. In 2006, I completed a Masters in Instructional Education at Central Michigan University. In 2007, I began my last graduate degree program in Educational Leadership at Clark Atlanta University. I’m very proud to say that on May 21, 2012, I achieved one of the greatest goals I set out for- becoming Dr. Tara Cotton! I can truly say that I believe in teaching and in LEARNING! Although school has always taken up much of my free time, there are things I love to do in my spare time. I enjoy reading (non-fiction), spending time with family and friends, FALCONS football, and TRAVELING!
My educational philosophy is that ALL students have the ability to learn and are entitled to the best education one could possibly receive. In this role, I set out to ensure that this happens for every student in the building. More specifically, I look forward to carrying out the vision of the school, which is to provide a nurturing and safe environment where students can become critical thinkers, problem solvers, lifelong learners, and productive citizens! I am wholeheartedly committed to doing this on a daily basis.
I can’t stress the eagerness I have about our 2019-2020 school year. Working together, I am confident that we can make a positive impact on the hearts that our community has entrusted us with!
ALWAYS SYLVAN READY,
