  • Safe and Healthy Food Options for All SPARK Students for School Celebrations* and Classroom Snacks

    *SPARK elects to support 4 celebrations each year: Fall, Winter, Valentine’s Day, and End of the School Year.*

    There are many kinds of allergies; however, because peanut and tree nut allergies are both the most common and most often life-threatening, the list below is peanut and tree nut free.  SPARK teachers will communicate with classroom parents should an individual child have allergies beyond peanut and tree nut. These guidelines apply to food that will be shared amongst students.

    Being thoughtful of students with allergies please be mindful of the following: Any food brought to SPARK for a celebration must be properly labeled. Food should be in the original container with labels.

    How to have food at SPARK that is safe for all students:

    • Please limit serving size to be appropriate for 1 student.
    • Avoid anything with peanuts or tree nuts of any kind, including nut butters (note: coconut is not considered a nut)
    • Avoid items labeled “may contain peanuts/nuts” or labeled “made on shared equipment with peanuts/nuts” or labeled “made in a facility that also processes peanuts/nuts”
    • Please check ALL labels as manufacturing and ingredients are always subject to change.
    • Do not send baked goods, homemade dishes, food without labeling (outside of fresh whole foods)

    Approved food items for SPARK celebration and classroom snacks

    • All fresh fruits and vegetables
      • Consider (nut-free) dips such as hummus for vegetables or yogurt for fruit
    • Applesauce cups or squeeze (all brands)
    • Dole or Del Monte fruit cups (in water, not juice)
    • Raisins (plain) or Craisins (low sugar version)
    • String cheese or other packaged cheese (deli can cross contaminate with tree nuts in meats)
    • Drinkable yogurt or smoothies (not Yoplait brand)
    • Yogurt tubes (freeze them for a popsicle!)
    • Quaker Rice cakes (Caramel Corn, Ranch, Kettle Corn, Plain)
    • Cheerios (plain, multigrain, cinnamon-NO HONEY NUT)
    • Kraft Handi-snack dips with cheese
    • Lenders or Thomas brand Bagels and plain cream cheese
    • Somersaults snacks (available at Target, Whole Foods and online)
    • Honey Maid graham crackers (Honey, Low fat Honey, Cinnamon, Chocolate)
    • Teddy Grahams (Cinnamon, Honey, Chocolate, Chocolatey Chip, Mini)
    • Fig Newtons (all varieties)
    • Barnum Original animal crackers
    • Lucy’s cookies (milk, gluten, egg and nut/peanut free!)
    • Skeeters Nut Free Snacks (Target)
    • Enjoy Life brand snacks (all varieties)
    • Nutrigrain Cereal Bars (Apple Cinnamon, Strawberry, Blueberry, Cherry, Raspberry)
    • Cheerios (plain original)
    • Annie’s brand bunny crackers
    • Pepperidge Farm Goldfish (cheese, graham, pretzel)
    • Rold Gold Pretzels (low sodium, lightly salted)
    • Utz brand Pretzels (low sodium, lightly salted)
    • Utz brand Tortilla chips (low sodium, lightly salted)
    • Newmans Own Pretzels (Salted sticks, rounds, spelt) (low sodium, lightly salted)
