Academic Continuity Provision for Moving Students

Due to the COVID-19 health pandemic, students that have moved within the APS District will be permitted to remain enrolled in the current APS school for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year.  This provision is being implemented to support the academic continuity of our students at their current school during a time of so much uncertainty.  In accordance with Administrative Regulation JBC-R(3), students that have moved to another district during the first semester will be permitted to remain enrolled only until the end of the semester, Friday, January 15, 2021.

Families that wish to take advantage of the SY2020-21 Academic Continuity Provision must provide updated proof of residency to their child’s current school as soon as possible but no later than 10 school days within the change of residence. If you have any questions, please contact the APS Office of Student Assignment & Records at studentassignment@apsk12.org (404) 802-2233.

Attendance Requirements for Students Who Move

The purpose of transfers for students who move is to maintain stability in the student’s academic program. Regular and timely attendance is also critical for stability in the student’s academic program. Students who are allowed to remain must demonstrate an ability to attend school regularly.

After the student accumulates three (3) unexcused absences or a combination of seven (7) unexcused absences and tardies, the principal or his/her designee will hold a conference with the parent to determine if remaining in the school of origin is the best instructional placement for the student based upon the family’s circumstances. If the student accumulates five (5) unexcused absences or a combination of 10 unexcused absences and/or tardies, he or she will be withdrawn and immediately placed in the new zoned school.
