Foster Care
Program Overview
Atlanta Public Schools – Foster Student Outreach Program
The Social Work Services Department partners with the Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS), caregivers, and school staff to support the educational stability and success of students in foster care.
Because children in foster care often experience multiple placement changes—which can mean school changes—the Foster Care Program works to remove barriers that interfere with school stability, enrollment, attendance, and progress.
The program helps ensure that students in foster care:
- Remain in a safe, stable school placement whenever possible
- Experience smooth transitions when school changes are necessary
- Receive academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and wraparound supports
