Talk it Out
Need someone to talk to? You’re not alone.
Talk It Out is a free, confidential text line ONLY for students in grades 6-12. Whether you're feeling stressed, anxious, sad, or just need someone to listen, licensed mental health counselors are available 24/7 to support you. Counselors will be available over the holiday break.
Sponsored by Atlanta Public Schools but run by an independent organization, Talk It Out is a safe and anonymous space where your privacy is protected. You’ll always be connected with a real, licensed clinician trained to help you through challenging moments, a crisis, or just a moment of stress. Students don’t have to face it alone. Talk It Out is here—anytime.
- It’s Confidential. Your conversations are private and encrypted. School staff and parents won’t have access to your texts.
- It’s Staffed by Licensed Professionals. You’ll talk with real, trained mental health clinicians—not bots or volunteers.
- It’s Fast. Most students are connected to a counselor within minutes.
When to Use Talk It Out
- Feeling anxious, stressed, or overwhelmed
- Struggling with friends or relationships
- Family challenges
- Sadness, depression, or loneliness
- Serious mental health concerns or crisis situations
- It’s not therapy or long-term treatment, but counselors can help guide you to the support you need.
- It’s not tech support or a homework help line.
- It’s not for checking on school grades or policies.
It’s not the police or a place to report crimes—but if someone’s in danger, counselors can connect you to emergency help.
- This line is designed especially for middle school and high school students (grades 6-12).
- Fully staffed by licensed clinicians—not volunteers or AI bots.
- Student privacy is protected. No identifying info is stored or shared.
- If there’s an emergency and a student shares details, clinicians may contact emergency services to protect the safety of the student or others.
Talk It Out is extra support. It’s not a replacement for school counselors or therapy, but can help in the moment and guide students to longer-term help.
