Equity
Equity in Action

Mission
The mission of the Atlanta Public Schools Office of Equity + Social Justice is to positively impact our learners and learning communities so that every single one of our students thrives — not by accident, but by design.

Vision
Together, we will boldly champion a culture that humanizes the APS learning experience so that every student receives the opportunities they deserve.

Role
The Office of Equity + Social Justice works to improve educational outcomes, support student-focused practices, interrupt and eliminate disparities in policies and practices, and support district leaders with impartial problem-solving, decision-making, and planning. In doing so, our work creates inclusive and just conditions for all students and staff.

Student Engagement
Student engagement in APS ensures that all students not only receive an education, but are empowered to advocate for change and shape their futures. By centering student voices, we cultivate a district where every student thrives academically, socially, and emotionally, preparing them to be leaders in an increasingly diverse society.

Cross-Functional Support
The Office of Equity supports districtwide functions, programs, and initiatives to further the vision of “One district with one goal, for every child.” This includes:
- Professional learning
- Conflict resolution & mediation
- Stakeholder engagement
- Data collection and analysis efforts
- Celebrating diverse student populations
Community Engagement

Atlanta Public Schools Alonzo A. Crim Award recipients bring the APS Equity Commitments to life. Through their leadership, they create inclusive environments, amplify diverse voices, and champion educational equity for all APS scholars.

APS proudly celebrates Minority Business Opportunity Week during the third week of September, with a series of events designed to promote student entrepreneurship and highlight local minority business owners and small business development.

Atlanta Public Schools is committed to fostering an inclusive community where students, staff, families, and partners feel supported and celebrated, and our participation in the annual Atlanta Pride Parade demonstrates that unity.

The Amp Up APS! Districtwide Equity Survey – powered by Panorama Education – provides an opportunity for students in grades 4-12 to share their school experiences, perspectives, and ideas for improving their schools.

This annual event proudly celebrates and promotes the talented student authors within our district. It also serves as an opportunity for student authors to showcase their published works.

The Office of Equity + Social Justice received the Rising Star Award from the Georgia Minority Supplier Development Council (GMSDC) during the 2025 Spirit of Alliance Awards and 50th Anniversary Celebration. The Spirit of Alliance Awards celebrate excellence in inclusive business practices and honor the individuals, small businesses, corporations, and government entities whose efforts have advanced economic equity and the inclusion of small businesses across Georgia.

What is Supplier Diversity and why is it important?
Supplier Diversity is a business strategy that promotes a robust supply chain by integrating diverse groups into procurement processes across government, nonprofits, and private industry.
Why is Supplier Diversity important to APS?
Supplier Diversity has the power to affect the economic disparities that exist in our communities. Providing equitable access for diverse suppliers and establishing intentionality when fulfilling our mission and vision creates more sourcing options, better business practices, and increased jobs.
