The Joshua Stukes Foundation ("TJSF") is facilitating a structured program in conjunction with American Red Cross of Georgia and Walt Disney World. The American Red Cross Pillowcase Project is a free, interactive preparedness program designed for youth. The program aims to increase awareness and understanding of natural hazards and teaches safety, emotional coping skills, and personal preparedness. Through instructor-led presentations, students learn the best ways to stay safe and how to create their own emergency supply kits by packing essential items in a pillowcase for easy transport during a disaster. Students also have the opportunity to decorate and personalize their pillowcases and share what they’ve learned with friends and family. The curriculum meets many of the Common Core State Standards for grades three to five.

Sisterhood: Club girls join a safe and supportive environment of peers & role models and learn to see themselves as computer scientists. At JA, we teach kids in a fun way concepts of how to make money and how to spend money wisely with two simulation programs: JA BizTown & JA Finance Park

Mountainfilm on Tour ATL is a nonprofit that hosts film screenings in the greater Atlanta area, featuring films curated from the annual Telluride Mountainfilm Festival. The goal of TMF, and of our part in Atlanta, is to reach the greatest number of children and families possible.  

We bring these films to Atlanta’s public schools at no cost because we have sponsors who fund our mission of educating the youngest amongst us about the environment, social justice, and a multi-cultural world. In our four years of presenting Mountainfilm on Tour-ATL, we have shown screenings to over 4,000 children in the greater Atlanta area. 

Opportunities for Lower School Students 

The lower school playlist, Kidz Kino, is a film program (typically 8-10 films that run 45-60 minutes) for kindergarten to fourth-grade students. It’s an engaging playlist with light educational content focused on outstanding, age-appropriate short films sourced from our festival. We are always onsite to MC, and work with teachers and students to bring out engaging conversation.

We also offer a set list focused on educating, entertaining and inspiring students in middle and high school. These films are accompanied by educational materials provided by Telluride Mountainfilm Education Resources.

I hope these links will give you a sense of our Voting & Voices Project. There’s a lot to it, but there are two resources that I’d particularly like to highlight—these may be great to share with educators in your network. 

The first is the set of Democracy Class lesson plans.  

The second is our Voting and Voices Pledges, which offer opportunities for students of all ages, K–12, to engage by pledging to “use their voices” to advocate for voting and encourage eligible voters to “use their votes.” (Next week, we’ll be releasing a student-friendly video to accompany these. I’ll be sure to send that your way). 

There’s quite a bit more on our site. We’ve curated a collection of free Classroom Resources for K-12 educators who want to teach about the vote. These include posters and printables, videos, lesson plans, classroom-ready texts and “Do Something” student-tasks (project-based learning plans). And we also have resources for Professional Development, including strategies for building supportive classrooms where students can engage in critical conversations and including families and communities in this work. We’ve even pulled together some of our favorite tools and resources from Rock the Vote (and supplemented them with a few of our own) to support educators leading school-based voter registration drives.

Tickets for teachers is a unique program that provides educators with free tickets for select early performances of virtually all Alliance Theatre productions.

Restrictions apply – Ticket reservations begin 30 days before your desired performance date. The first time you reserve tickets, you must present a valid teacher ID to the Woodruff Arts Center box office either in person or by emailing a picture of your teacher ID, your personal address, phone number, and email address to boxoffice@woodruffcenter.org. No phone orders will be available until your status is verified. After that, your Tickets for Teachers status is valid for one school year and you may place your orders in person or by phone by calling the box office at 404.733.5000. Ticket requests sent by email will NOT be accepted. A limited number of tickets for teachers are available for the performances specified below. These tickets are subject to availability.
