General Administrative Transfer Dashboard: Opens January 12th for SY26-27
Residents interested in attending an APS school, but live outside of the city of Atlanta, may attend if space is available and pay non-resident tuition. For current non-resident tuition rates, contact the Office of Student Assignment and Records via email at studentassignment@atlanta.k12.ga.us or via phone at 404-802-2233.
APS offers two types of transfers:
-
General Administrative Transfers – permits students to attend an out-of-zone school until the highest grade of school.
-
Georgia Special Needs Scholarship Transfers – permits eligible special education students to request a transfer to another APS school on the basis of special needs.
In-person appointments are available at the Department of Student Assignment, located at:
601 Dr. Thomas Cole Jr. Way, Atlanta, 30314
Please review the transfer list carefully. Only applications requesting a school from the transfer list will be accepted. Transfer application submission dates:
Important Points to Remember
- Parents may only apply during the application window.
- Applications submitted on the last day receive the same consideration as applications submitted on the first day.
- Student transfers are granted based on space availability.
- Applications will only be accepted for schools with available space.
- Individual schools are not permitted to allow students residing out of their attendance zone to enroll without an approved transfer.
- Transportation under this public school option is the responsibility of the parent.
- Out-of-district residents are considered after the applications of resident students.
- Out-of-district tuition rates for 2025-2026 are $14.958.86 for general students and $21,972.94 for special education students. The Atlanta Board of Education will vote in summer 2026 to determine non-resident tuition rates for the 2026-2027 school year.
- Siblings of students already attending a school through an approved transfer may apply to attend the same school as the transferring student. In the event that there is more sibling interest in a transfer than school capacity allows, the Office of Student Assignment will administer a lottery for sibling admission.
