Office of Literacy

The Atlanta Public Schools Literacy Department's commitment is to nurture a generation of proficient, enthusiastic readers and writers. We believe that literacy is the cornerstone of academic success and lifelong learning. Our approach is grounded in the science of reading, ensuring that every student receives evidence-based, systematic, and explicit instruction tailored to their unique needs.

Our dedicated educators and specialists work to create an inclusive and supportive environment where all students can thrive. We provide various resources, including professional development for teachers, engaging literacy programs, and access to high-quality reading materials. By fostering a love for reading and writing, we aim to empower students to think critically, communicate effectively, and confidently pursue their passions.

Furthermore, we partner with parents, community organizations, and local libraries to extend literacy opportunities beyond the classroom. Through collaborative efforts and innovative initiatives, we strive to close the literacy gap and ensure every child has the tools and support they need to succeed in school and beyond. The Atlanta Public Schools Literacy Department is dedicated to building a brighter future, one word at a time.
