June 28, 2018
Dear Families of Alonzo A. Crim Open Campus High School,
I hope that this summer has been full of fun loving memory making moments with your family. Although there are several weeks prior to beginning a new year, I wanted to provide celebrations as well as information that will help you prepare for our first day of the 2018-2019 school year.
First and foremost, I want to share how proud we are of our 34 graduating seniors who walked across the stage on May 25, 2018. All of our students graduated with a plan for next steps. Some students received college acceptances from colleges such as Albany State University, Denmark Technical College, Atlanta Technical College and Atlanta Metropolitan College. Several students enrolled in Cosmetology programs while others joined the Military and/or took on new jobs. Additionally, a major highlight included the beginning of our first School Based Enterprise Program. This program emerged out of our “Breaking the Barrier” Symposium whereby over 70+ people, community wide, came together throughout the year to discuss and implement ideas to break down barriers preventing students from attending school. This new course will be implemented full-time this upcoming year. It will focus on helping our students to set up and run our own “Re-upholstery company”. Finished furniture will be marketed, sold and donated community-wide, as a source of monies to help keep students in school, as well as, for student incentives, scholarships and support resources.
As we begin the 2018-2019 school year, we would like to help you and your student prepare for 2018-2019. Please take note of the following important information:
July 31st 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Parent/Student CRITICAL Information Session. (In Lieu of OPEN HOUSE)
3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Parent/Student CRITICAL Information Session. (In Lieu of OPEN HOUSE)
4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Parent/Student CRITICAL Information Session. (In Lieu of OPEN HOUSE)
August 1st 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. First Day of School
August 14th 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Parent/Student/Faculty Workshop: Ensuring Success for Every Child
School Bell Schedule- Please note that we will begin our first period (0 period) this year at 8:30 a.m. Students can arrive as early as 8:00 a.m. to get breakfast. In our attempt to offer flexibility, students will be required to take 4 classes with an opportunity to take up to 7 classes each quarter depending upon need. (One in the morning and two after school each quarter).
Dress Code- Students will be expected to meet the dress code requirements as outlined in the district’s handbook. All body parts are to be covered by appropriate attire. Proper footwear is also mandated. Closed toe shoes or sandals- NO FLIP FLOPS OR SHOWER SHOES. Administration reserves the right to determine what meets these expectations. Due to the fact that we have many partners visiting the building, it is critical for students to look neat and proper at all times. Opportunities, including jobs, will be missed by those who are not dressed appropriately.
Cell Phones- Students will continue to turn in cellphones upon entering the building. This safeguards time to focus on learning versus playing on the phone, listening to music or scanning social media.
Lastly, we are excited about what 2018-2019 brings for all of us. By truly working together we will be able to ensure success for all of our students. Enjoy the rest of your summer! Be safe and see you on July 31st.
Mrs. Dawn M. Parker
