APS Registration Procedures and Requirements
Students in all grade levels who are new to the Atlanta Public Schools should register as soon as possible. Students registering for pre-kindergarten must be four years of age on or before September 1. Kindergarten students must be five years old and first-graders must be six years old on or before September 1.

The checklist is to help you have all of the required documentation to enroll your student((s) online in Atlanta Public Schools. The documents listed are required for students enrolling for the first time and students transferring within the system.

All students must re-register and provide proof of residence each year. This list shows the documents to be provided by parents/guardians upon registration or the re-registration required each school year pursuant to Administrative Regulation JBC-R(0) - School Admissions.
Pursuant to Board Policy JBCA, Resident Student and Administrative Regulation JBC-R, Student Admissions, this Affidavit should be completed during enrollment and/or re-enrollment in Atlanta Public Schools. If the parent/guardian does not own or lease the property in which they reside, the parent/guardian should complete an Affidavit of Residency. This affidavit should not be utilized for Homeless students. Please see Board Policy JBC(1) and Administrative Regulation JBC(1)-R, Homeless Students.
Pursuant to Board Policy JBCA, Resident Student and Administrative Regulation JBC-R, Student Admissions, this Affidavit should be completed during enrollment and/or re-enrollment in Atlanta Public Schools. This Affidavit should be completed in full by the parent/guardian if the parent/guardian does not own or lease the property in which they reside and the adult with whom the parent/guardian and student are living on a full time basis. This affidavit should not be utilized for Homeless students. Please see Board Policy JBC (1) and Administrative Regulation JBC(1)-R, Homeless Students.
Enrolling students shall present an official transcript of work or credit at the time of enrollment. If a transcript is not presented, the student shall be accepted provisionally in the grade to which they indicate membership. If, upon receipt of an official transcript, it is found that the student has been enrolled in the wrong subject or grade, the student shall be withdrawn immediately and re-enrolled in the appropriate grade or subjects. The parent(s)/legal guardian(s) shall be informed in writing of the change.
Students enrolling without official transcripts shall be accepted provisionally in the grade to which they indicate membership. Records of each student’s previous work should be required before final placement is determined. A reasonable effort should be made to obtain such records. If the records are not forthcoming within 30 calendar days, an academic assessment shall be made by the school to determine final placement. Georgia Law 20-2-670 requires certified academic and disciplinary transcripts for students in the sixth (6th) grade and beyond from their previous schools. Students, Parents, or Guardians are also required to disclose conviction of designated felonies and whether students currently are serving a suspension or expulsion from another school.
Who should complete an ONLINE enrollment application?
- Students new to APS (entering Kindergarten students, students coming to APS from other districts, students coming to APS from private schools, students coming to APS from charter schools).
- Students transferring from one APS school to another APS school.
For use when students change APS schools or are enrolling in a school outside of APS.
For use when students are initially enrolled by a person who is not the child’s parent, legal guardian or legal custodian. This affidavit is valid for 30 days to allow the person to obtain legal guardianship.
For use when parents/guardians have assigned custodial duties to a grandparent, step-grandparent, great-grandparent or step-great-grandparent.
To allow child to be photographed, videotaped and/or voice recorded and for his/her name, image, likeness and voice to be used in APS approved photographs, videos, publications, news media and web pages for special projects or publicity.

If you do not wish for Atlanta Public Schools to disclose directory information from your child’s education records without your prior written consent, you must notify Atlanta Public Schools in writing by completing and submitting the information below by September 1st of each school year.
Each parent, guardian or person having control or charge of any child between the ages of 6 and 16 are required to enroll and send said child to a public school, private school or any home study program that meets the requirements for public school, private school or any home study program.
The possession of cellular telephones and other personal electronic devices (PEDs) is a privilege extended only to high school students.Students in elementary and middle school are not allowed to possess cellular telephones or other PEDs on any APS school site or on the school bus except for health or other special circumstances as approved on an individual basis by the school principal as described below.
