A Letter From Our Principal
Happy New Year to all parents! At Coretta Scott King Young Women’s Leadership Academy, we are excited about our transition into the next calendar year. We are anticipating an exciting semester of teaching, learning and academic excellence as we honor the rich legacy of Mrs. Coretta Scott King. We are taking full advantage of instructional time to embrace STEM initiatives as well as academic rigor in teaching and learning. Our goal is to ensure that our scholars are fully prepared for the Georgia Milestones assessments, HS transition, graduation, college, and beyond.
During this semester, we will start our Saturday school sessions for remediation AND recovery. Saturday “Remediation-Boot-Camp” sessions are designed to support student growth and performance on the Georgia Milestones and AP Exams. We believe that this additional support will have a positive impact on student mastery of standards in those tested subjects. We are also scheduling Saturday “Recovery” sessions to include additional instructional time for students to recover/submit missing assignments prior to each progress/grade reporting period. Students will have one “final” opportunity to submit missing assignments. Afterwards, those missing assignments will not be accepted. Note: Saturday school dates are forthcoming.
In our charge to develop leading ladies, we will continue in our strides to “look” the part by updating our dress code to include Blazers. All chocolate brown blazers have been shipped and are currently being processed for CSK crest and STEM monogramming. The approximate cost of each blazer is $100.00. The total cost to parents is $50.00. Donations from Donors Choose and the Atlanta News Broadcasters Organization (led by Jovita Moore) were used to pay for all remaining costs. Blazers were ordered in August, but due to the color specificity and tailoring, final processing was delayed. For those parents who have already paid, we thank you! For those parents who have not paid, please submit payment to Mrs. Tonia Brown by, January 22nd. All students are expected to wear blazers as a part of their uniforms on specific school days as well as for every instructional field trip and school ceremony beginning February 1st.
Thank you for your continued support as we strive to transform our scholars into leading ladies ready for college and career!
