Atlanta Public Schools has postponed fall sports for middle schools. The decision was made in alignment with the current public health status of Fulton County and Georgia, where the recent spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) has risen substantially in the last few weeks.
This decision has no impact on junior varsity or varsity sports. Please be advised that for the fall sport season, we are only allowing middle school kids to participate in the following JV sports, as they have always done:
- Cross Country- Not Offered on the Middle School Level
- Volleyball- Not Offered on the Middle School Level
We do realize that eighth graders are allowed to participate in Junior Varsity per GHSA Constitution and Bylaws, however it has always been APS policy that if the sport is offered at the middle school level, we will NOT allow 8th graders of those sports to participate on the high school level. We will stick with that policy this year. Our goal is to continue to mitigate COVID-19 cases and stick with athletics that are sanctioned by the GHSA, which serves as our governing body for high school sports. If there are any questions, please feel free to contact my office. I pray that all is well and you remain healthy.
