SPARK Cafeteria

  • Due to COVID19 some of our lunch/cafeteria procedures may have changed. Please call the front desk for more information.

We have a beautiful, large bright space for our students to enjoy during lunch. With that in mind, we have asked our students to treat their lunchtime as time spent in a restaurant. We are focusing on respectful behaviors that promote healthy digestion and good conversation, like all enjoyable meals should!

All students in Atlatna Public Schools may eat a free breakfast and lunch.

Free & Reduced Meals at SPARK

  • In the 21.22 school year, the entire Midtown Cluster was a part of the Community Eligibility Program (CEP).  This provided free meals for every family enrolled in our cluster.

For the 2022.23 school year, the Midtown Cluster, with the exception of Hope Hill Elementary, will not be a part of the CEP program. Moving forward, families will have to pay for their child to eat school breakfast or lunch unless that family qualifies for Free & Reduced lunch status.

Breakfast is $1.50 and lunch is $3.00.  You can pre-pay for breakfast and/or lunch here: Pre-Pay Meals

In order to qualify for free or reduced lunch status, families will need to complete the Free & Reduced Lunch Application.

You must complete one application for your household, listing all children attending APS on one application. Once you complete the application requesting free or reduced lunch, you will be notified of your child's status once the application has been processed.  Students are expected to pay the full price for meals until the application has been processed and the eligibility status is sent to the school.

Q & A

  • What are the behavior expectations in the Springdale Park Café?

Students are asked to remain seated and keep conversation at a comfortable level. If they need something, they are to raise their hand and request either supplies, assistance, or permission to get up. When classical music is played, students are expected to sit quietly and focus on eating. This usually occurs once per lunch wave, for 3-5 minutes.

There are several ways that you can help support the Springdale Park Café.  You can practice opening lunchbox containers with your child at home. If you pack your child’s lunch, please remember to pack eating utensils, a napkin, and a water bottle or other drink (No sodas, please!). These items are available in the lunchroom, but packing them ensures that your child can begin eating immediately when seated.

  • My child has a food allergy; what precautions are made to prevent an allergic reaction?

As a rule, we ask students to NEVER share food. Children may be reseated if an allergy issue is identified. Please remind them of this at home.

We ask parents to inform their child's homeroom teacher and our school nurse of any allergies.  This information is shared with other homeroom families in the class.

Additionally, staff are trained to identify allergic reactions, and in an identified emergency may administer an Epi pen.

  • How are children seated in the Café?

    Posted by:

Students sit with their classes at assigned tables.  SPARK has outdoor and indoor seating options as a result of COVID19.  Every grade level is split at the main campus where half of the grade level eats indoors and the other half eats outside in our cafeteria courtyard and patio.   Students will skip a seat, and will never sit directly across from another student while they eat indoors.

We made this change during the 2020.21 school year as a direct result of COVID19 and being mindful of social distancing and mask wearing.
