  • APPOINTMENT TO FILL AT-LARGE SEAT 9 VACANCY

    The Atlanta Board of Education will appoint an individual to serve the remainder of the unexpired term for At-Large Seat 9, to be vacated by Jason Esteves on December 31, 2022.

    Individuals interested in applying for At-Large Seat 9 must meet the following minimum qualifications:

    • Must be at least 18 years of age        
    • Must be a resident of APS Education District 5 or 6
    • Must be a qualified elector of the City of Atlanta
    • May not be an employee of the State Department of Education or a member of the State Board of Education

    Further, in order to be appointed, the successful candidate must meet the above qualifications and:

    • May not hold any other elective public office
    • May not be an employee of the Atlanta Board of Education or any other local board of education
    • May not serve on the governing body of any private K-12 educational institution

    All interested candidates must attend a mandatory in-person orientation session.  This session will be held on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at 5:00 p.m., and a second session will be held on November 28, 2022 at 5:00 p.m.  You must attend one of these sessions.  These sessions will be held at the Alonzo A. Crim Center for Leadership and Learning (CLL).  You must contact Pierre Gaither, Executive Director to the Board via email at pierre.gaither@atlanta.k12.ga.us to register and secure admittance to one of these orientation sessions. 

    • In order to attend the November 16, 2022 session, you must register no later than 5:00 p.m. on November 14, 2022
    • In order to attend the November 28, 2022 session, you must register no later than 5:00 p.m. on November 22, 2022

    You will receive a confirmation email of your registration.  Any individual who fails to attend their registered session in person will not be considered.

    All completed applications must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 30, 2022.  It is each candidate’s responsibility to ensure that materials are complete and are received by APS in a timely fashion.  Any application not received by the deadline, as well as incomplete applications, will not be considered, so candidates are encouraged to submit their completed application materials as soon as possible.  You will receive an email confirming receipt of a timely and complete application.

    Board Appointment Community Forums

     

     

    • Community members may submit questions to be asked of the finalists through the Google Form or through Let’s Talk (Board of Education).  All questions must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on December 9, 2022.
    • The Board office will select questions submitted by the community to ask of all candidates, focusing primarily on those questions that the community has shown most interest in.

    • All candidates will answer the same questions.

    • The morning and evening sessions will be different, so the community will be able to hear the answers to more questions.
