“If we teach today as we taught yesterday, then we rob our children of tomorrow.”  This quote by John Dewey is the epitome of my philosophy of education. Having over fourteen years of experience in education, I have witnessed a paradigm shift.  We are charged with teaching every child in our classroom and ensuring that each child reaches his or her full potential- “No child can be left behind.”

My role as the teacher is to equip students with the tools needed to become capable and successful students. To accomplish this goal, I use a variety of mediums to address each student’s individual learning style.  Addressing all modalities of learning is achieved by differentiating instruction, use of technology, performance-based tasks, and implementing brain-based learning strategies (teaching the way the brain learns).  In an effort to improve the quality of instruction for my students, I present curriculum that involves the interests of the students and makes learning relevant to life, ultimately creating a society of lifelong learners.
