I joined DM Therrell High School in October 2012 through the Georgia Teaching Fellows program.
My passion from science began in my high school biology class.  It was the first class that I actually had to study for in my life, but it was so interesting that I was hooked. I was able to understand the reasoning behind everyday occurrences such as why a high fever is dangerous.
I graduated from The University of Alabama at Birmingham where I studied molecular biology, chemistry, and Spanish. I also conducted research as an undergraduate student in the department of molecular pathology where I studied the molecular basis of breast cancer metastasis. After college, I joined a research lab at Emory University that focused on creating personalized vaccines for the treatment of cancers and autoimmune diseases.
It was my love of science and belief that every child deserves a quality science education that led me to join the Atlanta cohort of the Georgia Teaching Fellows programs. GTF recruits those who have experience in their field to receive a teaching certification and work in the schools with the most need for great teachers. It was a very challenging process that prepared me well for my new career.
I greatly enjoy teaching biology, honors biology, and AP biology at Therrell as each day presents a new challenge to keep me on my toes. I will always remember my motivation for joining the education profession -- every child deserves a quality science education!
