• Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to our class! I am so excited to be your child’s Gifted and Talent Development Teacher and to have the opportunity to work with you and your family. We are going to have a year full of fun, learning, and lots of adventure.  I thought you might want to know a little bit about me.

My name is Mrs. Yolanda Kimbro. I am married and have two children in college.   I attended schools in the Atlanta Public School System.  I completed my undergraduate education at Morris Brown College and completed my graduate studies at Troy State University.  This will be my fifth year working as a Gifted and Talent Development Teacher, but I also have 26 years of experience as an Elementary School Teacher.

My philosophy for learning is that each child is unique, and each child learns in a different way. One of my jobs as a teacher is to help your child discover his or her individuality and work alongside with them to maximize it. I believe in hands-on experiences, learning creatively, and learning though exploration. It is my goal to create a community of learners who are committed to working hard and having fun. I want each child to leave my classroom feeling confident that they can apply what they’ve learned in school to real-life situations. My goal is for your child to feel challenged and to have an enhanced passion for learning.

As the Gifted and Talent Development Teacher, I will work collaboratively with your child’s regular classroom teacher. As the Gifted and Talent Development Teacher and the regular classroom teacher work cooperatively to plan lessons, a strong connection between the Gifted and Talent Development Program and regular classroom instruction will be created. Additionally, I will spend time with your student in weekly pull-out sessions. This will give me the opportunity to work more closely with each individual student on Gifted Thematic Units of Instruction.  This year our Thematic Units will focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math

It is my hope that your child will find his/her participation in the Gifted and Talent Development program full of rich experiences that will inspire their love of learning—both inside and outside the classroom, and throughout life.   If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.  My contact information is as follows, 404-992-5499 (cell), ykimbro@aps.k12.org.  It is with great enthusiasm that I welcome those of you who are new and those of you who are returning to our program.
