Dear Partners and Friends of Dunbar,

I am excited to serve as the newly appointed Principal of Paul L. Dunbar Elementary School.  I am

honored to lead a school that is transitioning to a Primary Years Program under the prestigious

International Baccalaureate System (IB). I have been a dedicated advocate for education for over

nineteen years.  My journey began as a student at the University of South Carolina-Columbia (USC),

where I received a Bachelor’s in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in Elementary

Education. I continued by earning a Master’s in Adult Education at Central Michigan University and an

Educational Specialist degree in Leadership at Kennesaw State University.

I have worked with a variety of students.  My most recent administrative experience was at W.M.

Boyd Elementary School, where I served as Assistant Principal and was named APS Assistant Principal

of the Year 2017-18 school year.  I am excited and eager to bring my skills as an educational leader to

this community of learning and work with such a diverse group of bright minds committed to success

    in education.

I will work hard to continue the legacy of success implemented by those who came before me. Our

talented team will build strong relationships with parents, scholars, and community partners.

Our focus will be student achievement, coupled with social emotional development for students and

professional development for educators. We will continue to change the trajectory of our children by

molding them into the next generation’s problem solvers, global thinkers, and life-long learners. I am

committed to excellence in education. Every person who enters our halls of learning will be excited

about the powerful work we will accomplish collectively!  This excitement will inspire academic

excellence, produce positive attitudes, and unite our community. I welcome your input and your

support as we shape the minds that will one day shape the world.

    Yours faithfully,

    Ernest Sessoms, Jr.
