    Flexibility Request

    Proposed Change to the School Instructional Schedule for Academic Programming

    20-Day comment period (Ends March 9th):

    The Governance Team must vote on all proposal requests before it goes to the District Office and Assistant Superintendent for approval. Once approval is given, the Governance Team must provide the community opportunity to commitment or make suggests to the proposal before any final decisions are made to the proposal. Community comment must be taken into considering during any final revisions and decisions on this proposal.

     

    What:

    Crim wishes to have flexibility related to school schedule/professional learning days. Leadership would like to have the third Friday of each month as a school level professional planning day for teachers. The opportunity will provide all teachers to plan outside of their planning periods with other teachers and bring in guests to help teachers explore best practices to enhance learning in the classroom.

    Goal:

    Our EOC participation rates and scores have steadily increased since 2015 when we intentionally start having our teachers come in earlier to meet as committees to strategize concerning academics and attendance. We no longer have this additional time in the morning. We want to keep continuous growth in the percentage of students sitting to test and the percentage of students performing at the Developing and Proficient Achievement Levels.

     

    Why:

    We would like to give teachers time to plan cross-curricular and across grades. Currently, we share the building with another school; therefore, both schools must have time schedules that are accommodating to both programs. Creating this planning space gives us more time for teachers to meet in committees, analyze data, and bring in guests to help teachers explore best practices to enhance learning in the classroom.

    How instructional time will be made up:

    The school operates on a block schedule (4x4).Instructional Periods are 80 minutes each. As a way to make up for the 320 minutes 18 minutes will be placed back in the schedule ending the instructional day at 4:00 pm, instead of 4:18 pm for the entire school year.

    Public Comment Format

     

    Public comment is welcomed at each meeting except the first and last meetings of the year. These meetings are considered executive meetings. This GO Team will not provide responses or engage in direct conversation during meetings. The community is asked to contact and interact with GO Team members after the meeting for answers to questions or to get further information. The public may sign up to speak at the GO Team meeting during the 15 minutes before the meeting begins. Each public comment is limited to two minutes and public comment time will be limited to a total of 30 minutes for each meeting. Alonzo A. Crim Open Campus limits each individual’s time in order to respect everyone that wants a turn to voice his or her comment. The public is asked not to interrupt or disrupt GO Team proceedings. All GO Team meetings take place once a month in the Data Room and announced below on the website and in hard print one week in advance.
