SPARK School Events Cancelled - Principal's Corner - 3/11
Dear Springdale Park Parents,
By now, many of you have seen the letter from Dr. Castarphen regarding important information and guidance on the coronavirus (COVID-19). A section of her letter addresses field trips, as well as other school related events as included below:
Out of an abundance of caution, all APS-sponsored field trips to international and domestic out-of-state locations are cancelled until further notice. For trips that are scheduled, please work with the airline or hotel directly for refunds or credits, if applicable. For in-state field trips, the district will proceed with caution. Associate Superintendents, in conjunction with Health Services, will review and monitor all currently scheduled in-state field trip requests for any needed cancellations. All requests for new in-state field trips will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis with special attention being placed on trips requiring air travel, events held in closed spaces, or events with 1,000 or more participants. We will continue to monitor updates from CDC, DPH and GADOE and will revisit our guidance for field trips as situations evolve.
Please know that the following decisions were not made lightly. We realize these difficult decisions have an impact on our school in many ways but we choose to err on the side of extreme caution to protect the well-being of our students, staff and our community.
The following Springdale Park events are cancelled:
- 5th Grade Basketball Challenge – March 13th, 2020
- Fine Arts Night – March 19th, 2020
- Band/Orchestra Spring Concert - April 2nd, 2020
- 5th Grade Field Trip to Ocoee, Tennessee
Please note that other events may be cancelled and will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Refunds will be given to those who have pre-paid for the 5th grade field trip or basketball challenge. We are currently working out the logistics for that process. Please be patient with us and expect further information soon.
Finally, we understand that the students will be frustrated and sad to miss out on these memory-making experiences. If based upon guidance from local officials we are able to plan alternative experiences, we will make every effort to do so. Many factors in the coming weeks will determine that possibility.
Thank you so much for your understanding. As always, the health and wellness of our students and community is our number one priority.
