Back to School Update - 7/28

Hello SPARK Families!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend and thanks for taking the time to read this week’s Principal’s Corner! I would like to share some very important updates from SPARK regarding the remaining weeks leading up to our first day of school on August 24th. You can also access more information by clicking here for last week’s SPARK Principal’s Update!

SPARK Grade Level Town Halls

The week of August 10th, SPARK will host virtual town halls via Zoom. These town halls are designed to share important information with parents regarding virtual school schedules, grading and attendance. We will also share information on our SPARK School Supplies, Virtual Kits and Device Distribution Days. We ask that you attend the appropriate grade level town hall dependent on the grade your child will be in for the 2020.2021 school year. For parents of multiple children, you may choose the virtual town hall of your preference. We will also provide time for parent questions and answers. We hope you join us, but for those who are not able, each town hall will be recorded and posted on our SPARK website.

The ZOOM links for each town hall are listed below - please save link for appropriate meeting. We will share again in the coming weeks.

Distribution Days for Pre-Ordered EduKit Student Supplies, Virtual Starter Kits & Devices

What is an EduKit? An EduKit is a pre-ordered box of school supplies curated by teachers for SPARK students by grade level. Some parents chose to purchase these EduKits in May and they would have been delivered to their child’s classroom. These will be available for pick-up during the below dates / times.

What is a SPARK Virtual Starter Kit? A Virtual Starter Kit contains a number of items that SPARK students will need during virtual learning. A Virtual Starter Kit may contain grade level appropriate workbooks and textbooks that your child’s teacher will use throughout the year. It may also contain dry erase boards or manipulatives. These will be available for pick-up during the below dates / times.

What types of Devices will SPARK provide students? We are asking that families who are in need of a device for their child pick up a device from SPARK on their distribution day. Depending on the grade level of the student, we may assign an IPAD or a Chromebook for home use. As we prepare to Return + Learn this upcoming school year, technology will play a critical role.  We want to ensure every student has a device and internet connection to access virtual instruction.  All APS families should complete a survey for each child.  http://tinyaps.com/?techsurvey

In order to safely and effectively socially distance, we are asking that you come to the SPARK main campus on the day that corresponds to your last name. We must ask that only one (1) parent come to collect these items and that children stay home. A mask must be worn while in the building.   Signs will be placed throughout the parking lot guiding you into the gym through the main entrance. A blank name card will be provided where you will write your child/children’s name and their grade levels. Attendants will be stationed in the front of the school to support you as needed.

If your child has library books that they kept from the end of last year, please be sure to bring the books with you to be returned.

SPARK understands the importance of ensuring that our families know how to navigate our virtual reality. In order to feel prepared, we will provide both asynchronous (self-directed) and synchronous (live) sessions to teach you all you need to know about Google Suite, Google Classroom and our Math & ELA Curriculum Online Resources.

We will  have two synchronous Q&A and personal tutorials on August 18 and August 19 from 6:00pm - 7:00pm. Use this ZOOM Link and the below information:

Stick with SPARK

We love the community we’ve worked the last decade to cultivate!  While we know there are a myriad of considerations being made by families all over the country at this time, we truly hope that your family will stick with SPARK this school year.  In order to protect the robust programming and small class size you’ve come to expect from your community school, we hope that you will keep your children enrolled at SPARK.  We will have frequent opportunities for stakeholder input in order to make this school year academically rigorous while respecting the vast pressures on families during the pandemic.  Now more than ever we need to do what we can to keep our SPARK family together. Your family is important to us and we are stronger because of it.

Technology Survey

As we prepare to Return + Learn this upcoming school year, technology will play a critical role.  We want to ensure every student has a device and internet connection to access virtual instruction. We have had 400+ families complete the survey but we need all SPARK families to complete this survey for each of your children!  Please complete the survey by Friday, August 7th! TAKE IT NOW!

Class Lists

Class lists will be posted on the SPARK Main Campus and Kindergarten Center doors on August 5th at 3pm.

Homeroom Teachers

Your child's homeroom teacher will be reaching out at the end of this week to welcome you to the new school year at SPARK.   Be on the lookout for an email from your child's teacher.

 Class Schedules

The Grady cluster elementary schools will be sharing our class schedules with parents on August 10th.

I hope that everyone has a wonderful week!
