Dear Hollis Innovation Academy GOteam, PTA, Staff, Students, Partners and Community Members,

As a follow up to the communication regarding the leadership change at Hollis Innovation Academy, I am writing to inform you about a temporary change in Hollis Innovation Academy’s leadership.

Barbara Shea will be joining the school as interim principal of Hollis Innovation Academy. Some of you may remember her as the interim assistant principal who served at Hollis Innovation Academy this school year. She retired as a highly successful administrator in the Atlanta Public Schools System for 39 years. She also served as a very effective interim principal at Howard and King Middle schools. This decision comes as the current principal, Dr. Tiffany Brown, resigned from the position in May.

During this interim period, Mrs. Shea will be responsible for all principal duties, including ensuring that all student schedules are created, and the building is readied for Day One. Our goal is to maintain continuity and stability for our students and staff, and I'm confident that Barbara Shea will provide the necessary leadership and support.

I understand that changes in leadership can bring about questions and concerns. To address these, we will hold a meet-and- greet session with Mrs. Shea on June 17th at 9:30 am in the school cafeteria and virtually. This will be an excellent opportunity for staff, families, and community members to introduce themselves and discuss any questions they might have.

I greatly appreciate your understanding and support during this transition. Our commitment to the students’ academic and personal growth remains our highest priority, and I am confident that this temporary change in leadership will not affect the quality of education and care the children who attend Hollis deserve. We will have a smooth and wonderful opening to the upcoming 2024 - 2025 school year. Mrs. Shea will be given support from my team and me throughout this process. Additionally, support will be provided from the various APS departments to ensure a great opening of the school. Communication regarding the new principal selection process is forthcoming.

Thank you for your continued dedication to the school’s community. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Warm regards,

Margul Retha Woolfolk, Ph. D.
Associate Superintendent for North Atlanta & Washington Clusters (K-12)
