Dear Sutton Families,

Happy Day One of the new school year! Today was a fabulous day as we welcomed over 1,500 new and returning students. Truly Sutton continues to thrive and that is because of the incredible support you provide for our school. Our teachers and administrators will be spending significant time this week teaching our school culture including procedures, policies, routines, and most importantly how IBMYP students excel!

A few reminders as we proceed through the first few weeks of the school year. Please refer to the Definitive Communication Guide on our website for a listing of who to call based on any questions you might have. In addition, all teacher email address are on our website and we encourage email as the primary contact for staff.

Our students are all able to receive free lunch this year and there are no forms required. With a new food services vendor, I was able to see already the increased quality of food being offered, so I encourage you to make certain that if your child is not bringing lunch that they go through the lunch line and eat each day.

Please understand that our carpool lines are extraordinarily long the first few weeks and plan accordingly. All parents are required to drop off students at the designated carpool location for each campus. If you are short on time, I would highly recommend you have your student ride his or her bus. Speaking of busses, in Atlanta Public Schools students may only ride the bus assigned to their home address on file with their registration. Students may not ride a different bus home with a friend, nor ride a bus to another location.

Because of the large number of students at Sutton Middle School we are unable to accommodate any transportation changes during the day. Therefore, we will not be able to call a student from class during the day to tell them they are going home in another manner than they are aware of. Please be certain your child knows each morning whether they are a car rider or bus rider each afternoon.

This is going to be a fantastic year. I am looking forward to all of the amazing experiences are children will have this year. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me for any reason whatsoever at gail.johnson@atlanta.k12.ga.us.

Sincerely,

Gail Johnson in Script Font
