03/13/20 - Field Trip Cancellations Due to COVID-19

SMS Letterhead

March 13, 2020

Dear Parents,

I regret to inform you that the upcoming student trips to Washington, DC and New York City have been cancelled. I hope you agree that nothing is more important than the safety and well-being of our children and in light of the uncertainty with the COVID-19 virus and the protocols implemented by Atlanta Public Schools, we cannot allow a risk.

I ask for your patience regarding refunds and the amounts of the refunds. I am currently working with Gerber Tours and they are doing everything possible to assist us with this cancellation. We have a long standing wonderful relationship with the company and they are supporting us on the highest levels. Mr. Lloyd and Ms. Kepler as well as the Atlanta Public Schools’ Finance Department are also assisting us with this.

As soon as I have confirmation regarding refunds and the process in which the money will be refunded I will follow up with another letter. Again, I do ask that you provide Gerber Tours and Sutton Middle School some time to process these cancellations and work with the other vendors involved in these trips.

Sadly this unprecedented situation is going to cause a variety of hardships for many of us. I am committed to providing you with the most current information I have regarding refunds for the trips and any other information related to Sutton Middle School. I thank you in advance for your understanding and support of our efforts. In the meantime, if you have any questions, feel free to email me at gail.johnson@atlanta.k12.ga.us.

Sincerely,
