Welcome Back to School Edition
We are only a few short weeks away from opening our doors for the 2023-2024 School Year!!!
Welcome Parents and Students to the 2023-2024 school year!!! We received our official letter for International Baccalaureate authorization June 2023, so our school is now the Cascade Elementary IB World School. That’s right, we are opening our doors to our scholars with one of the most prestigious authorizations and recognitions an elementary school can possess. We are excited that you and your scholar will be joining us at this next level of Greatness!
There are a couple of events that we invite you to attend before we officially open the doors for instruction. The first event is the Atlanta Public Schools Back- to- School Bash. This is truly an event that you do not want to miss. There will be fun, games, and vendors that will be providing instructional resources that include school supplies. The Back- to -School Bash will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2023, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
We will have a Cascade table located in the Georgia World Congress Center (285 Andrew Young International Blvd NW, Atlanta, GA) and would love for you to stop by and meet several key team members.
If you miss the Back- to- School Bash, you will have another opportunity to meet the Cascade Team during the Cascade Elementary IB World School Open House event on Monday, July 31, 2023, from 9:00-11:00 AM. This is an up close and personal event where you will be able to come to the school, meet your scholar's teachers, and visit the classroom where your scholar will spend most of their time for the next 9 months. We want our families to visit us during open house. We will have some wonderful giveaways for back to school at this event as well.
New for 2023-2024
Most of our team members are returning from the previous school year, but we do have some new faces in the Tiger’s Den that we want you to meet. We have 10 new teachers joining our team this school year and two new instructional leaders, Mr. Tony Atwater, ELA Instructional Coach and Mrs. Brandi Joiner, Special Education Lead Teacher. The administrative team is super excited to have these individuals on the team. Through a rigorous selection process, we are sure that these educators are ready to provide students with what they need to be successful this school year.
Also new for this school year, students in grades K-3 will have additional time to complete ELA and Math skills each day. We have increased ELA to 140 minutes per day and Math to 95 minutes. We believe that giving students more time to engage in these contents will ensure that the students master skills on or above grade level by the end of the school year. We want to produce highly literate scholars by the end of this school year. We also found value in increasing the number of minutes that students have Math since we are rolling out a new Math Curriculum (Envisions Math) and Math Standards of Excellence. I am excited to announce the promotion of our very own Mr. Willie Mills, former 5th grade instructor, as the Math Master Teacher Leader that will support our Math Instructional Coach Ms. Woods with the rollout to teachers and students.
In Conclusion, the mission of improving academics for our scholars is at the forefront of our work. We are still committed to growing our scholars from good to great in a loving and safe environment. Cascade is a very special institution of learning because so many wonderful educators, parents, and students abide within. I hope that you enjoy the rest of your summer and I look forward to welcoming you and your scholars with open arms in preparation of the first day of school which is Tuesday, August 1, 2023. Let’s get these scholars in the building so that they can get off to a great start as we take instruction to the next level.
