FINAL DAY TO UPDATE YOUR CHILD'S DECLARATION
CLOSES MONDAY MARCH 8, 2021
https://dig.apsgraphs.com/ITR/

We have made it to the Month of March!  Who would have thought a year ago around this time that we would have closed up our school buildings and transitioned to Virtual Learning, Social Distancing, and fear of those with cold-like/flu-like symptoms?  Who would have thought that millions of Americans would become terminally ill over a new virus entering our world?

COVID-19 entered our world and now we must deal with it in order to create what many are calling the "New Normal".  As part of this new normal, I am proud to say that the mitigation strategies that we have in place at Kimberly have prevented ANY student or staff member from contracting COVID-19 while in our school building.  We have had three student cases since we started having students return, but our screening process identified those students as soon as they entered the building and they were immediately quarantined (sent to CARE Room) and then sent home.  When the student didn't have symptoms upon arrival we still quarantined those classes, out of an abundance of caution, and prevented any exposure to our remaining students and staff.

I want to say THANK YOU to all of our families who are monitoring their students and themselves daily to ensure the collective safety of our school community.  As such, I also want to remind our parents of our In-Person Learners of the importance of Daily Health Screenings prior to sending your child to school.  APS is getting ready to roll out a new, more streamlined, process for doing this.  This process uses an App on your phone called HealthCheck.  To learn more about HealthCheck, please visit www.stratumhealth.io.  You can get ahead of the rollout by downloading the app now and begin screening your children that are returning In-Person using the following codes:

Additional Documents about HealthCheck

For those parents of F2F students who are unable to download the app, you are still required to complete the attestation daily before sending your child to school.  Click the following link:  https://tinyurl.com/y5xc82bu

For those families that are returning their children to a face to face model of instruction, please be sure to review our Return to Learn Playbook.  This is a live document that is updated as needed.

The teachers and staff at Kimberly have been working very hard to make this the BEST YEAR YET for your youngsters.  We believe that 'Virtually, We Can Do Anything!'

Do you know a child who will be five years old before Sept. 1, 2021? If so, please help us “round them up” to prepare for kindergarten. Atlanta Public Schools Kindergarten Round-Up is an orientation program for rising kindergarteners and their parents. It’s an opportunity for parents to register their child for kindergarten and take the first step towards a smoother transition to kindergarten for both child and family. Parents are asked to bring the following information to Kindergarten Round-Up:
  • Student’s birth certificate
  • Student’s social security card
  • Proof of residency
  • Photo ID
  • Immunization record (3231)
  • Ear, eye and dental records (3300)
Please Visit https://www.atlantapublicschools.us/Kindergarten to begin online registration or contact your zoned school if you have any further questions regarding Kindergarten Round-Up.
Upcoming Georgia Milestone Assessment
It appears that our 3rd - 5th grade students will be taking the GA Milestone Assessment this Spring.  The Test will be required for all of our In-Person Learners.  Our Virtual students will have the option of coming to the school to test, but will not be required.  More details will come as the District finalizes our plan.

APS Science Fair
Our students participated in the APS Science Fair.  For those parents that wanted to watch and were not able, you can view it using the following link:  SCIENCE FAIR

Principal's Chat & Chew
The Principal's Chat & Chew takes place the 2nd Thursday of every month.  This is an opportunity for our families to get insight on the happenings in APS and specifically at Kimberly Elementary School.  If parents attend the live sessions, they can also ask questions to admin and other staff members present during the meeting.  For those that are unable to attend live, we also post the session to our Facebook Page.  I hope to see you at our next one!

COVID-19 Surveillance Testing

Atlanta Public Schools (APS) is continuing its effort to keep everyone in our schools and buildings safe by making COVID-19 Surveillance Testing available to all students and staff. COVID-19 Surveillance Testing is a non-diagnostic test that detects the presence of COVID-19 even in individuals who may be asymptomatic. The benefits of surveillance testing include allowing APS to test, receive test results (within 24 hours) and notify individuals of a clinically significant reading before coming to school or work.

While participation in surveillance testing is not required for students, it will be strongly encouraged. The success of this mitigation strategy, and the District’s ability to return and keep students in school, is based on high levels of staff and student participation. APS is exploring all options as it relates to the administration of surveillance testing for staff and will be providing staff training, information sessions, and other staff engagement opportunities as part of this process.

Our free, full-day Pre-K program prepares 4-year-olds for kindergarten and provides an early path to college and career. Visit EnrollEarlyATL.com to learn more.

CurbSmart - After School Dismissal Process

As a result of COVID-19 we have to implement new policies and procedures for student arrival and dismissal.  CurbSmart is an easy-to-use app that instantly synchronizes pick-up lane arrivals, allowing school administrators inside and outside to coordinate the safe and organized release of students after school.  Administrators use the application by entering hang tag numbers into a smartphone or other device in which Inside Administrators view a list of student names on another device at a location where they release the students.
In an effort to provide the safest and most efficient release of students from our school, please be advised of the following rules and procedures:
  • You’ll be issued a hangtag with a number. Please display this hangtag in your vehicle’s dashboard or from the rear-view mirror so it is clearly visible for entry by the administrator.
  • Create your CurbSmart Account to quickly make transportation changes and update your contact information.
    • School Code: 9547
You can view a video about CurbSmart HERE.
You can sign-up for a CurbSmart Account at: https://www.curbsmart.net
