Five Golden Bears Make APS Top 100 in Race 2 Read

On Friday, January 10, 2020, five Sylvan Golden Bears were recognized as being in the top one hundred readers for APS Race 2 Read.  Media Services Director Patrice Laird-Walker and Mrs. Jennifer Saunders, APS Media Specialist at Large recognized four sixth graders and one eighth grader.  Students received a Winter Challenge Badge notebook and gift card.  Sylvan continues to focus on literacy through additional reading classes, and a new program called AR Wednesday. During this event, each grade level spends one Wednesday morning a month in the cafeteria reading to the end of homeroom.  This provides students an opportunity for thirty to forty uninterrupted minutes of reading.  At the end of the homeroom time, students have time to take an Accelerated Reader quiz, and/ or log their minutes in Race 2 Read.  During the event, the Media Center sets up a Mobile Media Center (MMC) to check out and renew books for the students.
