Beecher Mission and Vision Statement

Mission: With a constant focus on equity and excellence, we work with all stakeholders to provide rigorous learning experiences that develop and support the whole child, while encouraging them to be great citizens of the world.

Vision: Beecher Hills Elementary School aspires to develop inquisitive, knowledgeable, caring and lifelong learners who are appreciative of others' differences, value multiple perspectives, and communicate in multiple languages to prepare them for a global society.

Hola, Beecher Family!

An International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program school strives to develop internationally minded people who, recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world. What does it mean to be Internationally-Minded? It is a thoughtful, critical perspective that applies to who we are and what we do. It includes how we communicate, our political awareness, cultural understanding, celebrating diversity, global awareness of global issues, and a reflection on how knowledge is constructed and applied.

IB states that an internationally minded person demonstrates the attributes of the “Learner Profile. ”The IB Learner Profile represents 10 attributes. These attributes can help individuals and groups become responsible members of local, national, and global communities. Ask your child to "teach" you all about our Learner Profile attributes.

CELEBRATING OUR JANUARY IB LEARNERS OF THE MONTH

Students who are Courageous thoughtfully consider new experiences with bravery and determination, meeting challenges with resilience. They have the bravery to tell people what they think is right.

What can parents do to enhance Courageous skills at home

  • If your child is feeling uneasy about trying something, encourage them to attempt it and then reflect on both whether they liked the activity and how it felt to try something new.
  • You child might want to set some short-term goals. Consider activities that make him/her nervous. What are realistic goals for the week? Order something different from the menu at a restaurant or visit a new restaurant.
  • Be careful to explain to your child the difference between being a courageous by trying new things and doing dangerous things.

Congratulations to the following December Communicators: Kaison Berry, Caleb Flanagan, Andrew Pate, Kimoni McKinney, Zendaya Hill, Aubrey Young, Jaiden Martin, Nora Smith, Autumn Forestal, Jiraiya Tanner, Aniyah Rhodes, Auria Strickland, Malik Peltier, Kylii Young, Ashtyn Bryant, and Carrio West

Congratulations also to our Staff Member of the Month, Chelsea Grant, 2nd Grade Teacher

February IB Learner Profile Focus

At Beecher, we focus school-wide on one learner profile trait per month. Teachers look all month to see which student shows the focused profile all month long. We have a celebration at the end of each month where our students show their knowledge of the selected profile during a virtual presentation . Each student that is selected as the IB Learner of the Month is awarded a certificate, a Chick fil A meal coupon, a Wendy's frosty coupon and a T-shirt designed by our very own Beecher Bee, Jayden Thompson.

The Learner Profile trait of Balanced is our February focus. Students who are Balanced understand the importance of balancing different aspects of their lives—intellectual, physical, and emotional—to achieve well-being for themselves and others. Balanced students recognize our interdependence with other people and with the world in which we live. Will your child be our February Learner of the Month?

IB Attributes: "Balanced" Trailblazers

IB February Task: Work with your child to research one of the famous trailblazers and examine the way that they were able to exemplify the attribute of balance in a positive way. Then, have your child submit their findings to Mrs. Harvey to be featured on WBUZZ.

2. Leonardo Da Vinci - Artist, Inventor, and Polymath

Big picture

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Focus - Responsible Decision Making

Responsible Decision Making Skills enables students to keep in mind multiple factors—such as ethics, standards, respect, and safety concerns—when making their decisions. This competency includes students’ capacity to identify problems and develop appropriate solutions to those problems, whether they are social or academic problems.

This month, we are focusing on the SEL theme of Problem Solving. Throughout our lessons, our students will explore skills related to problem-solving and how those skills are developed to support learning, positive relationships and self-efficacy.

Our Book of the Month is Change Sings, written by Amanda Gorman & Loren Long. In this stirring, much-anticipated picture book, anything is possible when our voices join together. As a young girl leads a cast of characters on a musical journey, they learn that they have the power to make changes—big or small—in the world, in their communities, and in most importantly, in themselves. Change Sings is a triumphant call to action for everyone to use their abilities to make a difference.
